The starting signal for the strategic cooperative collaboration between the General Administration of Customs of P.R.C. (GAC) and GS1 China were given as early as July 2018.
Due to the constant increase in import and export goods in the world's second largest economy, they were looking for a solution to improve the efficiency of data exchange. In the uniform agreement of the GAC, the customs authorities implemented the GTIN declaration throughout the country from August 1, 2019. This leads to a fast and convenient method of filling out the necessary declaration form fully automatically in seconds, instead of the previously tedious and cumbersome manual entry.
To this end, GAC has worked together with GS1 China on the Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) to obtain information from foreign suppliers on the attributes of commercial goods as the basis of the Chinese catalogue of imported products in its special system and then to identify the imported goods accurately by matching the synchronised source data with the GTIN information provided by the importers in the customs declaration. This enables importers to complete customs clearance safely and efficiently.
